Sunday drive to Mt. St. Helens
Today after Stake Conference we packed up the kids and went for a drive to Mt. St. Helens, something we have been meaning to do for a long time now since living in Oregon. It was a beautiful sunny fall day, the leaves turning- and the wind blowing. We made sandwiches and ate them on the way. The kids did really well on the drive, It was about a 5 hour drive round trip. We made them turn off all electrical devices- gameboys, nintendo DS, i pods ect. on the way there. I have been thinking lately about how we need to take more road trips and make them more meaningful and fun- something they will always remember. I wanted them to actually look out the window and see something new- instead of being glued to the gameboy or whatever. Jack had a fun time reading the map, lily drew and played hangman, Taylor repeated everything everyone said and had fun just looking out the window, Lucy was a good girl and slept the whole way there. We got there and the wind was blowing around 50 mph- ashes were blowing everywhere. It was an amazing sight to see- my i phone pics don't do it justice, I will have to post some of my others too. The kids loved walking in the wind and learning about Mt. St. Helens. It was a fun day, and well worth the drive- I hope we can go there again and hike around more.

Bold move taking away electronics. We love rode tripping but have relied heavily on the t.v. maybe we will try without sometime.
